Most independent schools discount tuition, but not every school does it the same way. From need-based financial aid and merit scholarships to tuition remission, tuition-discounting strategies can affect enrollment goals, net tuition revenue, and long-term financial sustainability. Drawing on an analysis of financial and tuition-discounting data from more than 700 independent schools, NBOA has identified nine tuition-discounting models most commonly used across the industry. In this session, participants will explore the characteristics and financial implications of each model. Attendees will also be introduced to NBOA's financial health and sustainability tools and learn how enrollment and business office leaders can use shared data and metrics to evaluate their school's financial position, ask better strategic questions, and strengthen collaboration around enrollment and financial decision-making.
