Week 2: Reading the Market Beneath the Market

An advanced interpretation and application lab
Length: 75 minutes

Key question: How do we move from a collection of data points to a disciplined working diagnosis?

Participants use five analytical lenses: scale, distribution, penetration, competition, funnel alignment, and strategic relevance. After some explanation and a case study example, they apply the framework to one actual question from their own school.

  • Look at one external market signal, one internal enrollment signal, one competitive or category signal, and one practical access condition
  • Identify the evidence that does not fit the school’s current explanation
  • Draft a primary and possible secondary hypothesis
  • Rate confidence and identify the single missing piece of evidence that would most improve the diagnosis
  • Connect the diagnosis to a real decision the school may need to make

Participant work: A 20-minute Your-Market Mini-Lab followed by a structured peer conversation. Participants need only bring one real question and whatever evidence they already have; no formal homework or new research is required.
Outcome: A provisional diagnosis that is useful without overstating certainty.
